RCM Hot Water is a Sunshine Coast business that does one thing. Repairs, replacements, servicing and new installations across heat pump, solar, electric, gas and continuous flow systems.
When you call, you speak to Richard, and Richard is who turns up. There is no call centre taking a message and no dispatcher deciding what your system probably needs. The reviews on this site consistently mention the same two things, arriving when promised and staying with a problem until it is actually solved, which is a fair description of what the business is trying to be.
What specialising in hot water actually changes
A general plumber fixes hot water systems among many other things. That is a perfectly good arrangement for most jobs, and plenty of them do it well. The difference on a system that is behaving strangely is pattern recognition: having seen the same fault on the same model enough times to know where to look first.
It also changes the advice. Someone who works across all five system types every week has no reason to steer you toward one, and a real reason not to: recommending a heat pump for a property with nowhere sensible to put it produces a complaint six months later. The pages on this site are written the same way, which is why none of them tells you a system type is best.
The other thing it changes is the repair-or-replace conversation. There is an obvious commercial incentive to say replace. We would rather tell you when a tank is sound and the fault is a fifty dollar part, because the alternative is a business that wins one job and loses the next three.

Who actually turns up?
Richard. RCM is a hot water specialist rather than a general plumbing firm with a roster, so the person you speak to on the phone is the person who looks at your system. That is the main practical difference: nothing gets lost between the booking and the visit, and you are not explaining the fault twice.
Why does RCM only do hot water?
For a burst pipe, yes, call a general plumber. For hot water, doing one thing means seeing the same failures often enough to recognise them quickly, carrying the parts that actually fail, and knowing which models are worth repairing and which are past it. That narrowness is the point.
What if you are booked out when my system fails?
We will tell you straight away rather than holding the job and hoping. If we cannot get to you in a timeframe that works, saying so on the first call is more use to you than being fitted in badly three days later with a cold shower in between.
Do you work on systems you did not install?
Most of the work is exactly that. Repairs, servicing and replacements on systems installed by someone else years ago are the bulk of it, and there is no expectation that you bought it from us. Bring us the data plate and we will tell you what we are looking at, whoever fitted it and however long ago.
Do you do rental properties as well as owner-occupied homes?
Yes, and managed rentals are a regular part of the work. They have their own shape, mostly around access, owner approval and invoicing rather than the plumbing itself, and there is a page on this site covering how that runs. What RCM does not do is commercial work: this is domestic hot water, so a cafe, a gym or a motel needs a contractor who specialises in that.
