Hot Water in Mudjimba: Local Conditions That Change the Job

Mudjimba takes its name from a Kabi Kabi word for the native midyim berry bush, and the suburb's best-known landmark: Mudjimba Island, often called Old Woman Island, about a kilometre offshore, carries a local legend of two women stranded there gathering the berries. The residential area developed from the "Surfrider Estate" subdivision, with a residents' association formed in October 1960 as the coastal strip grew northward following the construction of David Low Way. Population has stayed small and stable since, sitting at 2,664 at the 2021 census.
That stability means Mudjimba's housing stock skews older than its faster-growing neighbours, which has two practical consequences: more systems reaching genuine end-of-life rather than failing early, and more properties where the original plumbing and electrical supply were never upgraded for a heat pump or continuous flow unit. The suburb also borders marshland within the Maroochy River Conservation Park, and some lower-lying blocks carry drainage considerations that affect where a new unit should be sited.
Gas is unchanged from the rest of this coast: no reticulated natural gas, so gas hot water systems run on LPG bottles. RCM Hot Water checks the existing electrical and plumbing supply on every Mudjimba job, since an older property often needs that upgraded before a newer system type can be fitted at all.
